Summer Reading Project - Pre-AP English I

A Letter from your English Pre-AP Teachers:

We look forward to having you in an English I Pre-AP class next year;
however, we want you to understand that Pre-AP English is tons of fun, but it is also a lot of hard work. This course will be intellectually
stimulating--encouraging us to explore fascinating questions and ideas that have inspired wonder over the centuries. It will be rich with wonderful books that deserve to be read and reread, rich with probing conversations and thoughtful writing experiences.

The best classes are almost magical for students and teachers alike.
They inspire us; they lift us up; they challenge our thinking and touch our
hearts. As your English Pre-AP teachers, we will do our best to conjure some magic for you next fall. Meanwhile, we are asking you to experience some of that magic over the summer. In Pre-AP English, you will focus on syntax, close readings, and literary analysis. We will consider historical context as we study poetry, drama, novels, essays and short stories. It is imperative that you come
to class with a willingness to learn.

We are the luckiest teachers in Lockhart ISD because we have the
privilege of teaching its finest students. We know that you will succeed in this class. We will have fun, work hard, and gain an ample amount of wisdom and knowledge from each other. Expect to work hard, but also to enjoy yourself, to luxuriate in the fascination and power of great literature.

We can’t wait to meet you in August. Have a safe and restful summer
and happy reading!
